VGuard, a new innovation for managing intracranial pressure in patients with brain hemorrhages or brain injuries, is an example of how technology can meet urgent clinical needs.
Medical technology already plays a crucial role in intensive care, where patients are critically ill and often in urgent need of life-saving measures. The rapid development in this area offers new opportunities for better care outcomes, reduced risks and improved efficiency for healthcare professionals.
VGuard is an exciting development for PO Medica, which has so far focused on reselling medical devices from manufacturers worldwide.
- With Together Tech, we are developing an innovative medical device that provides safer care for very seriously ill patients and relieves the burden on intensive care staff, says Per Olander, who bought the patent for a product idea that arose in the neurointensive care unit in Lund 5 years ago.
Per Olander has extensive experience in medical technology and a broad network within neuroclinics, especially in Lund. After seeing the potential in the innovation and being given the opportunity to buy the patent, he decided to invest. It was a new challenge, but also an opportunity to bring a promising product all the way to the market.
- We are now in the final stages of the development work. What remains is regulatory work and fine-tuning. We plan to begin trial production in early 2025 and then apply for CE marking. We hope to have a CE marked product by the end of 2025. We also see opportunities to develop VGuard for other patient groups in the future, Olander says enthusiastically.
Medtech for intensive care is one of the most dynamic areas in the healthcare sector. Products like VGuard, which combine high precision with user-friendliness, have an important role to play in this development.
- Modern intensive care increasingly relies on advanced technology to manage patient data, monitor vital functions and support life-sustaining treatments. Ventilators, sensor-controlled systems and AI are just a few examples of technologies that we at Together Tech are developing to meet the high demands placed on emergency and intensive care environments, says Mikael Duvander, Chief Quality Officer and Technology Senior Advisor at Together Tech.
Mikael has also played a unifying role in the development of VGuard, a product that meets strict regulatory requirements to ensure patient safety and product efficiency.
"I experience professionalism and security in the collaboration. There have been some challenges along the way and Together Tech has been responsive and solution-oriented. We have had a constructive dialogue where our different perspectives – technology, regulatory requirements and market – complemented each other. This has created a trusting collaboration where we have been able to navigate obstacles together."
